The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) and our network of state affiliates, including self-advocates, families and volunteers across the nation, will mark Brain Injury Awareness Month this March. A brain injury can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone – a brain injury does not discriminate. In fact, 1.7 million Americans sustain a brain injury each year. Early and equal access to care for all is our goal. We will be sharing with you ideas on how to promote brain injury awareness in your community. To learn more about these initiatives or to learn more about awareness and advocacy events taking place in your state during the month of March and throughout the year and how you can get involved, contact your chartered state affiliate. • Before you do anything, first reach out to your state affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America to see how you can join in and help. 2012 Brain Injury Awareness Fact Sheet This year, brain injury awareness day on Capitol Hill was held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. As in years past, there was an
awareness fair, briefing and reception. The full schedule for the day

Brain Injury Awareness Month Promotion Ideas
(Download the Promotion Guide Below for More)
• Download the web graphic of the new Brain Injury Awareness Month logo (see below) and use it as your Facebook and Twitter profile picture during the month of March.
• Use Twitter and Facebook to generate excitement and solicit participation and idea sharing (Download the Promotion Guide for suggested postings).
• Reach out to reporters and media outlets (broadcast, print, Internet) to let them know March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Offer them story ideas. Use the statistics in the Promotion Guide to provide a national perspective, but have a few bullet points about your own connection to brain injury and tell them why it matters to you.
• Use state-specific and local statistics and feature local self-advocates, family members and caregivers. BIAA helps by providing the national picture.2012 Awareness Materials
